katy & jonny: a country wedding in sunny Wainfleet
I was honoured and delighted to shoot a wedding in my own family this past August. It’s been a long while since the last one – and so much fun to be completely out of doors, all day and night long, in the dreamy summertime heat. Katy, my dynamic and accomplished niece, envisioned her wedding day out of these modest fairgrounds, and with the collaborative effort of her mom (my sister) and no doubt some of her talented in-laws, she really made some magic happen.
Tarnished brass and dusty roses, cardboard hearts and twine – true country crafts mingled with etched glass and retro signage, classy cane chairs and white linens. Just moments after the sun-drenched ceremony, craft beer and sangria got flowing to quench the thirsty crowd. The lawns filled up with croquet and golf and an unusual block-tossing game I’ve never heard of. Kids ran amok in their fancy duds. Frills and suspenders. A long hall full of wood framing set aglow with a million strings of lights.
I was thrilled to get Katy & Jonny out to the edge of Lake Erie, for a few picturesque moments, just the two of them, before all the wheels got churning. I really love this giant tree b&w, and the water sparkles…and Katy’s twinkly smile at ring-time.
Rosy sunkissed faces.
Rosy booze-flushed faces.
Hearts expressed in off-page speeches. A giant roomful without walls. Room to roam, in the in-between moments. Dusk poses before old-timey buildings.
May your dreams come true K&J, love from your wacky aunt up the way, xo.
