It was a shimmering day full of weather and wild.
We began at the Prince of Wales in it’s lavish gilted interiors and right away, meeting Molly, I saw how this wedding day was going to play out. Nothing predictable, nothing ordinary, something perhaps a little bit stolen from tradition but always with a twist of personality and playfulness. Molly’s dress, for instance: pale powder pink, pristine, and absolutely unlike every other—simple and exceptional, like her.
Then she pinned a dinosaur on it.
Just for that little extra.
The whole day went that way really—we parked along the Niagara Parkway, and took some portraits beside the orchards, under steadily darkening skies. skies promising rain–then delivering with gusto. We drove to Ravine under a torrential downpour, took a peek at the flowerful funland that the exceptional people at Ravine had created out of their tent, then stole a few more shots while our tempermental skies took a pause.
I’m loving the tell tale drops of water on Jon’s lapel and the streaks of raindrops that texture the group portraits–everyone smiling and acting like they weren’t actually getting wet. And of course the umbrella shots—oh the drama of black umbrellas.
I just adore this wedding—these young and engaging people full of passion and cool ideas. Wide open to circumstances and yet unwavering.
The ceremony (as you can see) happened in the tent, with the lanterns swinging and the wind slowly winding down outside. The light was perfectly radiant in that space, everyone bathed in a soft glow–a dream for someone like me. Once vows were said and sealed, the sun broke through triumphant once and for all, and drew everyone back outside for hugs and love and some awesome lens flare.
But as always the photos tell all.
I’m enjoying the many expressions in Molly’s eyes, and the unabashed grins that take over Jon’s whole face, the pink clouds over the vines, the chandelier twinkliness of the first dance, the full moon and firelight.
A genuine and extraordinary day all told.
All the best in love and life Molly & Jon–you surely deserve it.
