This is the second opportunity I’ve been given in my career to shoot a Sikh wedding ceremony, and WOW!! what an opportunity it is. The brilliant colours of the women’s elaborate saris, their jewellry, bindis and henna tattoos are enough of a feast for the eyes alone—add to it a decorated white mustang, buffets of Indian food and the regalia of the ceremony itself, and you have this photographer’s heaven.
Rupi is a gentle giant full of comedy and cleverness, and is the perfect match to Meg’s serene and practical self-possession. They are a team of two–there is an unspoken and seamless connection between them. So lovely to behold throughout the day.
In answer to the tradition of riding a white horse to his wedding, Rupi drove a red Mustang convertible from his parent’s house to the Gurdwara–then got on the horse later anyway.
In the evening, at the reception, Meg and Rupi acted out a Bollywood melodrama for their guests which ended in an energetic dance number consisting of several of the groom’s friends encircling the bride in a mass overture of appreciation—soon after, the entire crowd of guests were caught up in the frenzy on the dancefloor. Hilarious. Brilliant. Joyous.
Kudos to both of you M & R for putting on an amazing show!
