These guys are total keeners–ready to get hitched before spring even arrives, before the robin shows his red breast, before the snow has even melted.
It stands to reason: this happy union is the culmination of several years, more than a few phone calls, and many many miles travelled across this gigantic globe. I get it–why wait for weather?
Lorena was born in Romania and has lived in Toronto since she was four. Matt is Australian, the son of a farmer in Inverell, New South Wales. They met while travelling, on separate journeys, in Peru, which I guess is sorta, kinda between Australia and Canada. After a brief but impactful romance in Peru, doing as travellers do, Lorena returned to her work in Toronto and Matt continued on his 9-month, 26 country adventure around the world. But they kept in touch. and they kept keeping in touch. And eventually Matt came to Canada to study at Queen’s University in Kingston.
With a little less distance between them, the relationship deepened, and after living out a long-distance (albeit a shorter distance than previously) relationship here in Ontario, they decided to take the plunge. A decision which landed us all in Jordan, Ontario for an exhilarating (if a bit chilly) celebration of love.
Families meeting families, children becoming cousins, two lovely, fiercely independent individuals binding their lives together.
I loved that they chose this time of the year, just as the ground begins to thaw and open itself back up, just as the air loses it’s bite and the water starts running downhill. I was able to whisk the two of them away to a little forest in the valley where the snow was as yet unblemished by the melt, to take some stark and vivid images among the leafless tree trunks. I love these.
Dig the personalized cufflinks they bought for the dads and all the groomsmen, including the super handsome little ones. Matt’s super special pocket watch. Lorena’s card, and the tears that follow it. And then her sister’s tears, and her father’s devotion–what a beautifully sweet man. The white horse and carriage ride through the vines (www.sentinealcarriages.ca), and windy kisses by the barn. Matt & Lorena graced their tables with their travels and added a splash of yellow to everything to remind everyone of sunny days to come.
What an authentic and simply joyful occasion.
Warm wishes to you both L&M xo.
