Yowza—what to say!!? This wedding day was meticulously plotted out with painstaking thought put into the where and when. Truly an ambitious undertaking. Brittany began at her sister’s condo where it was revealed that the zipper on her wedding dress had broken and that they had collectively, after much ado, surmised that the only solution at this late hour was to sew her into her dress.
But the seamstress was caught in traffic.
So there was a wait, and perhaps an edging of stress—but all handled with style and the finesse of friends who know how to handle each other. In really no time at all and without delay, the bride was in the limo, cruising to Casa Loma.
Meanwhile, Paul & the groomsmen collaborated to get spiffy and shared a few moments with the father in law before making their own way to the castle, for some greetings and ushering and groomsmanly duties.
Of course the conservatory at Casa Loma is classically superb for photography—so much detail, so filled with light, and that wonderful effect of being in a rounded space really lends itself to the magic. Oh the symmetry.
Then, with rings exchanged and signatures inked—and some lighthearted family portraits—we head straight to the beach, for some fun with the bridal party. The break wall and the city line, the Humber Bay Bridge and it’s many good sides. I had the party team up to brazenly hold off pedestrians and cyclists while we staged a long shot of Brit and Paul from the Gardiner Expressway! We all get danger points for that one.
I love these breezy and whimsical results.
Finally off to the party zone at Atlantis—a still living relic within the massive complex that was once Ontario Place.
I heard a rumour that this space will also soon be a thing of the past, which only amped up my desire to capture it in it’s entirety. This glowing white but weathered, “old futurist” architecture. That rooftop that must have once blown up with cocktail parties under the stars and 70’s fabulousness, the strangely intertwining catwalks and stairwells, that magnificent twinkling orb. To say nothing of the wonder in that perfect view of our shining city.
I think folks were set alight with the incredible vibe of that place. All those windows and all that ever-changing light. The pulse of city and crowded stadiums resounding over Lake Ontario. The magnetic pull of the darkening horizon. You can see it in their faces.
Then when it comes time for nightfall and a slow dance, the romance is palpable. I adore these images of Brittany and Paul’s first dance—they move me.
All said, an action-packed, never a dull moment, keep everyone on their toes kind of day.
Exhilarating. Fun. Fanciful.
Can’t wait to hear how the wedding dress was extracted.
Full props to the both of you B & P and thank you for making me a part.
